Lace Christening Gowns
by
Ginger Meeker
Ginger has created a progressing series of
Christening gowns and an interesting construction technique for creating a
lace overskirt with an attached underskirt. The first, Shari, has a
beautiful lace pattern with no underskirt. The second, Crystal, introduces
us to her seamless underskirt. The third, Melissa, has a two tier lace
overskirt with an underskirt and the fourth, Kaydence, has a three tier
overskirt with an underskirt. All lace stitch patterns include both written
instructions and charts; all are relatively simple patterns. For adventurous
knitters though not difficult with very detailed instructions. Heirlooms to
be cherished for generations!
This Christening gown is created in a series of
steps: A.) Scalloped lace collar. B.) Gown bodice which is worked
flat including the sleeves. C.) Once the bodice is created and cap
sleeves completed, the piece is joined and a "Bell Lace" patterned
skirt is knitted circular.

What sets this Christening gown apart from any
I've seen is the lined knit skirt which is added while the top lace
skirt of the gown is being knit. In other words, there are no seams
to join these two skirts. The only little seams are under the cap
sleeves. The underskirt is started first and the overskirt can be
started at any time thereafter. The bodice of this gown is worked
identical to the Shari gown above. This is a very clever technique
you'll want to try!

traditional Shetland Fern Lace pattern! Similar bodice construction
to the two above with a coordinating lace stitch for the sleeves.
One can use any fine yarn that knits to a gauge of 8sts/10rws per
